A youth hockey team that earlier this year completed an undefeated season was honored by the township board of commissioners.
The Strath Haven Middle School non-check squad finished 20-0 en route to winning the 2014-15 Delco School Hockey League championship for that age group.
Coach Rich Graham told the board at its most recent meeting that the team was made up mostly of fifth- and sixth-graders, as well as a few fourth-graders.
“These kids represent the best of what our school district (Wallingford-Swarthmore) is all about,” having to overcome adversity along the way, Graham said. The finest compliment he received about the players was that they exhibited good sportsmanship.
Several members of the team and their parents were on hand for the recognition. One of the players was Jake Dougherty, son of Commissioner Mike Dougherty.
